Oxidation of Resistance of Sic Heating Elements

SiC heating element begins to oxidize in the air when the temperature goes to 800 ℃, there will be a SiO2 protective film generated on the surface when it reaches to 100-1200 ℃, crystallizing cristobalite at 1200 ℃,the protection film reaches a certain thickness at 1400 ℃,and then the rate of oxidation element becomes extremely slow and steady. It will result in the damages to the protective film, increasing the rate of oxidation and premature failure of components if it continues to heat up to 1527 ℃ or above .
The Oxidation of Silicon Carbide Heating Elements is extremely slow during working , but it will still lead to increasing resistance for long time working, this is called aging of the element.

About HD Double Spiral (SER) SiC Heating Elements

Made of special high-density reaction-bonded silicon carbide, the HD Double Spiral SiC Heating Element is a tube with both electrical connections on one end. The hot zone is formed by cutting a double spiral slot which reduces the cross sectional area through which current flows, resulting in higher resistance than the cold end. The cold end is formed by cutting two longitudinal slots along the length of the tube. HD Double Spiral Silicon Carbide Heating element is supplied with a ceramic collar cemented to the extremities of the cold end. The cold end of the HD Double Spiral Silicon Carbide Heater is flame sprayed with aluminum for a distance of about two inches. Flat braided-aluminum straps are held in compression with stainless steel clamps to this metallized area. The clamp is electrically insulated from the flat braid with high temperature insulation. The aluminum braid is about 10 inches (254 millimeters) long and holes are provided for easy connection to the power supply.
